Stainless Steel Plate Specifications:

  • ASTM A167: This specification covers stainless and heat-resisting chromium-nickel steel plate, sheet, and strip and various stainless steel grades. This specification is not frequently referenced for stainless steel plate products as ASTM A 240 incorporates much of the same information and standards as ASTM A167.This specification now conforms to the applicable requirements for A480/A480M.

  • ASTM A176 This ASTM Specification covers stainless steel and heat-resisting chromium-nickel steel plate, sheet and strip. Like ASTM A167, many grade specific requirements were replaced or incorporated into ASTM A 240.This specification now conforms to the applicable requirements for A480/A480M.

Specification

This steel is a stainless and heat resisting product, which can be cut to plates, sheets, or strips. Some additional chemical requirements include carbon, manganese, phosphorous, sulfur, silicon, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. The steel is required to undergo heat analysis, as well as chemical composition analysis. Each product is required to undergo hardness tests, using methods such as Tension or Intergranular corrosion tests. This product can be finished in either hot or cold rolled. Thicknesses can be customized between 0.002″and 3/16″.

  • ASTM A240 This specification governs a group of general requirements associated with stainless steel plate, sheet and strip, including the following specifications issued by ASTM: A167, A176, A240/A240M, A263, A264, A265, A666, A693, A793, and A895. ASTM A480 covers thickness tolerances, manufacturing requirements for stainless steel plate.

Specification

The ASTM A240 covers chromium, chromium-nickel, and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip for pressure vessels and for general applications. A240 is one of the most common specifications for 300 series and 400 series stainless steel sheet.

  • ASTM A693 This ASTM specification governs specifications for precipitation-hardening stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip. For example, 17-4Ph stainless is covered under ASTM A693.

Specification

The ASTM A693 specification covers precipitation-hardening stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip. The mechanical properties of these steels are developed by suitable low-temperature heat treatments generally referred to as precipitation hardening. Some of the steels can be extremely useful for moderate to severe drawing and forming in a solution-treated condition, while others are capable of mild forming only. These steels are suitable for machining in the solution-annealed condition, after which they can be hardened to the mechanical properties required, without danger of distortion or cracking.

  • ASTM A480 This is the most frequently cited stainless steel plate specification for 300 series stainless steels. This specification covers chromium, chromium-nickel, and chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip for general applications

ASTM A-36 HOT ROLLED PLATE

A-36 is a structural quality carbon steel used in a variety of general construction applications including; bolted, riveted, or welded construction of bridges and buildings.

1020 HOT ROLLED PLATE

The controlled carbon range of 1020 improves the machinability of this grade. Good formability and weldability are also characteristic.

1045 HOT ROLLED PLATE

1045 is silicon killed with a higher carbon content for greater strength. Strength can be improved in the lighter and medium thicknesses by heat treatment. Machinability is good, while forming and welding properties are limited.

1008 HRCQ ASTM A1011/1018 CS TYPE B

Hot rolled commercial quality steel is suitable for many applications where normal surface imperfections are not objectionable. Heat treatment and other processing operations must be properly performed so as to not detrimentally affect the properties of the steel. Commercial quality will meet the bend test requirements of ASTM A1011/1018 CS TYPE B.

ASTM A-514 PLATE (Grade B, Grade H, Grade F, Grade Q)

The A514 plate steels are a group of quenched and tempered alloys with attractive advantages and characteristics. The most important are high yield strength at 90 or 100 ksi minimum, weldability, and good toughness at low atmospheric temperatures. Designed for a wide range of structural uses as well as machinery and equipment, these alloy steels offer help with selecting the optimum in strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, impact-abrasion resistance, and long-term economy.

HIGH STRENGTH ASTM A-656 Gr. 80

ASTM A-656 Gr. 80 combines outstanding toughness, ease of fabrication and positive strength to cost relationships when compared to A572-50 and A-36. Applications such as telescopic cranes, truck trailers, railroad cars, construction equipment and transmission towers; or any other extreme load-bearing job where the economy of superior strength and weight are paramount.

HIGH STRENGTH ASTM A-588 Gr. A/B

ASTM A-588 Gr. A/B steel plate offers all the advantages of ASTM A572-50 but is produced with elevated levels of copper to add corrosion resistance. Because of the self-repairing, natural oxide patina, this "weathering" grade is often used in unpainted applications such as bridges, utility sign/poles and highway structures.

HIGH STRENGTH ASTM A-572 Gr. 50

This high strength, low alloy steel plate offers an optimum combination of strength, weldability and notch toughness. Applications include: bridges, buildings, automotive and truck parts, railroad cars, cargo containers, tote boxes, construction equipment, structural tubing, lighting standards and transmission poles.

ASTM A-516 Gr. 70 (PVQ) ASME SA516-70

ASTM A516-70 plate is a medium carbon alloy designed for use in pressure vessels and boilers. It contains manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and silicon at the highest levels allowed by the ASTM, to produce the strongest carbon steel plates specified by the ASTM. It is a high strength metal, is easy to fabricate and can be securely welded. A516-70 plate also has good corrosion resistance.
